June in the Lakes heralds the time that Spring gives way to Summer and the weather improves. The Lake District is now at its best with all the trees 'in leaf' and gardens in full bloom.
The Visitor can explore the stunning scenery of the fells, lakes and hills. Country Houses, Gardens and most of the places of interest are now open to the Public. Bus Tours and Lake Cruises ply their familiar routes. The local villages, carefully tended and conserved, nestle amongst the hills, offering tea-rooms, cafes and other services to the traveller.
The Lake District is open for all to enjoy its simple delights, but for those seeking more energetic pursuits, the National Park accepts walkers, climbers, ramblers or cyclists, pony trekkers, and sailing, canoeing and many other outdoor activities, within its bounds. The Summer Season still supports the traditional festivals, mostly outdoors, such as fairs and sporting occasions; probably the best-known being the Grasmere Sports.
Coming up at the end of July is the Windermere Air Show down at the Glebe. Over the weekend of the 26th and 27th there will be a programme of really excellent air and ground attractions - something for all the family.
Rain or shine, a Summer Holiday in the Lakes can be a truly memorable experience. |
